The Neo-Geo
In 1990, SNK released what I believe was the first console to match the power of an arcade cabinet--because the console they released was essentially the same as the system they used in their arcade cabinets. Focusing on its 24-bit processor (hefty for the time) and the huge size of its cartridges (later releases of which exceed 700-800 megabits), this system boasted some awesome experiences. Mind you, the console was $600, and games could set you back $200 each, but still...
The Neo-Geo is primarily known for two kinds of games: Fighters and Shooters. Titles like The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, Aero Fighters, Magician Lord and more have stood the gameplay test of time even when the then-incredible graphics have become outdated, and as far as 2D graphics are concerned, the Metal Slug series alone has proven that SNK's hardware still has what it takes to produce some of the most beautiful sprite-based games ever.
All of the images contained within this section were captured through the use of emulation. Most images here were achieved through playing the game and capturing the image in my arcade emulator of choice,
MAME32. However, some of the images would not be possible to achieve through MAME due to sprite obstruction, and for these I used Kawaks. I highly recommend this emulator to anyone intending to extract sprites or other graphics from Neo-Geo games.
