The Arcade
What can one say about the Arcade that everyone doesn't know already? If it wasn't for the wild success of arcades in the eighties, we wouldn't be where we are with video gaming today. That isn't to say we wouldn't have video games, just that they wouldn't be anywhere near as good, just like we wouldn't have computers as powerful as we do now if the PC Gaming industry hadn't spurred the development of monster machines for graphics-crunching.
One advantage that arcades have traditionally had over consoles is technology. Until recently, you couldn't buy a console that produced the kind of raw power an arcade cabinet did. And technically, you still can't, though modern consoles have enough juice to make the differences negligible in almost all circumstances. But the long-standing power of arcade machines has yielded many graphically-impressive games, with high resolutions, lots of colors, and many diverse character designs.
All of the images contained within this section were captured through the use of emulation. Nine out of every ten images here were achieved through playing the game and capturing the image in my arcade emulator of choice,
MAME32. However, on several of the trickier Capcom images (some of which would have been practically impossible otherwise), I also used Kawaks for its fantastic video display flexibility.
